SoundLincs Staff Spotlight

Welcome to SoundLincs Staff Spotlight, where each month we shine the light on one of our incredible staff and volunteers. This month we shine spotlight on Shelley, our Executive Assistant, who has worked at SoundLincs for over 23 years.

1. What is your role at SoundLincs and what does that involve?

I’m the Executive Assistant at SoundLincs. My role is wonderfully varied. Alongside providing executive and administrative support to our CEO, I’m involved in HR management, governance and Board support, day to day financial operations, project support, and overseeing operations and facilities.

SoundLincs is an inclusive organisation that creates opportunities for people of all backgrounds to feel empowered and inspired through music. As Safeguarding Champion, I work closely with our CEO to ensure we maintain strong safeguarding practices and safe recruitment processes across everything we do.

I really enjoy being at the centre of the organisation. It means I get to work closely with every part of the team, helping keep things running smoothly so that together we can focus on what matters most: connecting and empowering people through music.

2. Why is music important to you?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. It’s powerful, emotional, and incredibly uplifting. It has the ability to shift my mood instantly, whether that’s unwinding at the piano or singing along to something joyful in the car.

It also holds so many memories. Certain songs can take me right back to special moments, and it’s something I love sharing with family and friends. Music has a way of bringing people together in the most natural and meaningful way.

3. Tell us a bit about your life outside of SoundLincs.

Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m creating. I always have a few projects on the go, whether that’s knitting something intricate, experimenting with textile art, art journaling, or painting pottery.

I love the process as much as the finished piece. There’s something really grounding about working with your hands and watching something slowly come to life.

4. What’s one piece of advice, insight, or inspiration you’d like to share with our community?

Creativity doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. Whether it’s music, art, or something you’re making with your hands, it’s about the process, not just the outcome.

Just like knitting a sweater or learning a piece of music, it all comes together one stitch or one note at a time.
