SoundLincs are delighted to have secured funding from Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation and Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board, administered through Shine, to deliver an exciting new music and wellbeing project for care workers across Lincolnshire during 2026/27.
There are more than 70,000 care workers across Lincolnshire, many working in demanding and often stressful roles while supporting others every day. Care workers can face challenges including emotional fatigue, burnout, isolation and limited access to wellbeing support, particularly in rural areas where services can be harder to reach.
Building on the success of SoundLincs’ Social Prescription programme, this new project will create welcoming local music groups designed specifically for care workers. Unlike traditional mental health interventions, which often rely on clinical services or one-to-one therapy, this initiative offers a community-driven, creative, and engaging alternative. Music has a unique capacity to foster positive emotions and social bonds, making it an ideal tool for supporting mental health in a non-stigmatising way. Many existing well-being programmes focus solely on individuals receiving care, whereas this project acknowledges and addresses the significant emotional and psychological burdens faced by care workers themselves.
The project will offer regular music sessions in communities across Lincolnshire, giving care workers the opportunity to come together, connect with others and take time for themselves. Sessions will include collaborative music-making, musical exploration and creative activities, all delivered in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Led by experienced SoundLincs facilitators trained in safeguarding and mental health awareness, the sessions will be flexible and inclusive, allowing people to participate at a level that feels comfortable for them. No previous musical experience will be needed, the focus is on enjoyment, connection and wellbeing rather than performance.
For many people working in care, especially those supporting individuals in rural or home-based settings, the role can sometimes feel isolating. By bringing people together through shared musical experiences, the project aims to create supportive local networks where participants can reduce stress, build confidence and connect with others who understand the unique pressures of caring roles.
Importantly, all sessions will be free to attend, helping remove financial barriers and ensuring support is accessible to care workers regardless of income or location. To help participants fully enjoy and benefit from the sessions, where necessary the person they care for will be supported by trained professional care staff while carers take part, creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone involved.
Through music, creativity and community connection, SoundLincs hopes to provide care workers with valuable opportunities to support their own wellbeing, develop lasting relationships and build resilience, recognising and supporting the people who play such an essential role in caring for others every day.
