Leicester-Shire Schools Symphony Orchestra – Conductor


Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service are looking for a highly experienced inspirational, dynamic, motivated and aspirational Conductor to lead their most senior and highly acclaimed Symphony Orchestra (known as the LSSO).

The LSSO are the pinnacle of the central ensemble groups offered by LSMS and are accessed by students from a wide area within Leicestershire.  In November 2014, they performed at the Schools Prom’ at the Royal Albert Hall after winning the ‘Performance Practice’ category at the Music for Youth competition earlier in the year.

The group currently rehearse for approx. 32 Saturdays a year (during term time) from 10.00am -12.40pm though this arrangement may be subject to negotiation with the successful applicant and the students. The group undertake regular activities e.g.

  • A Tour abroad in the first week of the Leicestershire school summer holidays (usually falling in the second week of July)
  • Take part in National Competitions.
  • Perform at least 3 concerts a year encompassing a wide range of repertoire such as The Firebird, Capriccio Espagnol, Die Fledermaus, Danse Macabre and much more.
