Midge Ure on sound52
You don’t get many artists who have had hits across the last four decades, and you don’t get many who have scooped both Ivor Novello and Grammy awards amid an ongoing storm of career achievements. But then you don’t get many Midge Ure’s to the pound. “When I heard about sound52 and the Commissions I was immediately interested. I’ve already done a couple of music workshops before and really enjoyed the experience. From my discussions with the team and looking at the brief they gave me for the commission, I am really looking forward to writing something for the young people to perform at the Meltdown”. “They said I should come up with something big and anthemic to be played by an enormous band of up to three hundred players. Well then, anthemic .......I think I know how to do that one!”
Mauricio Venegas on sound52
“I am looking forward
immensely to working with the sound52 team on this project to compose a
piece of music especially for the young people of Lincolnshire. Music for me has
always had a deep foundation in creating and developing the spirit and
enterprise that communities need to survive. I feel that children in particular
have a crucial role to play in this process, not least because of their ability
to absorb concepts without instruction and that put quite simply they are the
future.
I look at music from a central philosophy where all work should develop from a
standpoint where any discrimination be it of age, colour, gender is the wrong
place to make music from.
I can’t wait to see and hear the final performance at The Meltdown in August”.
