The First Notes Resource Pack is a bespoke package of musical activities,
information and other resources for Early Years settings, developed for Lincolnshire
as part of the sound52 project by soundLINCS - Lincolnshire's
Music Development Agency; Lincolnshire County Council Foundation Stage Curriculum
Advisors; Lincolnshire Pre-School Learning Alliance and First Notes Music Facilitators,
part funded by Lincolnshire EYDCP, Youth Music and 7 District, Borough and City
Councils.
The Resource Pack partners wished to develop a flexible package of activities
that could be utilised by setting practitioners and music facilitators alike,
regardless of whether they possessed a formal knowledge of music.
The activities contained within the pack can be implemented in one of two distinct ways. Practitioners can either follow a musical path through the pack, selecting activities linked by category, (Pulse, Tempo, Pitch etc), or follow a curriculum path and select activities that are linked by foundation stage details. The activity cards can therefore be 'read' in either direction.
The Resource pack contains sixty-nine double sided activity cards which are divided into colour coordinated categories of Name Games, Warm Ups, Pulse, Rhythm, Dynamics, Pitch, Composition, Soundworlds, Songs and Rhymes and Instrument Making. Complimenting this are twenty-seven double-sided cards, showing individual instruments, and ten double-sided cards showing instruments grouped together into families.
There are also information cards on how to use the pack, and useful details such as where to obtain Early Years instruments, and titles of other, similar publications. The cards are presented in a smart and durable plastic wallet.
The Resource pack is available for the price of £30 plus £7 p+p, however every Early Years Setting that hosts a First Notes Residency will receive one free of charge.
