Root Notes
Root Notes is an 18 week project, with 9 sessions of supported delivery by soundLINCS’ experienced Music Facilitators. The project is in its pilot stage and is currently running in 18 Early Years settings across the county.
Each Early Years Practitioner agrees with their allocated Music Facilitator a number of outcomes which challenge and develop their current music practice. These objectives are about confidence building, creative music provision and cross curricular links. Our Music Facilitators work with the practitioner week by week to design a music project which will help the practitioner build on the specific areas they highlight.
The project follows the pattern of fortnightly visits from the Music Facilitator, who continues music and creative support for the Practitioners & put the steps in place to achieve an identified goal throughout the course of the following fortnight.
It is hoped that each setting will participate in a celebration event of some-kind at the end of the residency. Each setting has to choose a mandatory outcome which lends itself to this possibility, and the Music Facilitator will engage with the setting to support this notion.
Though still in its infancy, the project is receiving delightful reviews from many of the settings involved & we hope very much that Root Notes will continue into 2012-13.
soundLINCS is delighted to once again be working with the Birth to Five Service to offer a pre-selected set of Childminding groups across the county the opportunity to enjoy our Music Sounds Inclusive project. This years’ theme is ‘Music Across the Ages’ and focuses on developing an Early Years music repertoire that encompasses activities suitable for babies, toddlers and young children. We are also offering the groups a one-off evening session which looks at the broader ages that a Childminder may work with during holiday periods and creating musical activities that can be enjoyed by all of the children.
Across Lincolnshire groups of adults from Residential Homes, Support Groups and Singing Groups (and various other groups) are participating in the intergenerational project soundGENERATION. They are taking part in six weeks worth of music making with an experienced music facilitator extending and developing their current musical skills to be part of an online digital composition. Alongside these current sound52 groups from First Notes settings and HeatUp! Groups are submitting sound bites to contribute to this composition as well.
soundLINCS is keen to hear from groups (of those aged over 50) that meet regularly as we still have some free opportunities for participation from Lincolnshire based groups or organisations. Please either call 01522 510073 or email allison@soundlincs.org with details of your group.
Further details including where we are currently running our soundGENERATION projects can be found here.

Teachers, music co-ordinators, vocal leaders, freelance music practitioners, local authority arts officers and many others are invited to join us to help build a sustainable framework to ensure singing in and out of schools continues in the East Midlands. * establish sustainable networks and potential partnerships
* create an e-book Sing Up Legacy that celebrates the work undertaken in the East Midlands over the last 4 years, depicting events, case studies of the journey of children, teachers, schools' awards, mind shifts, and strategic developments.

Celebrating National Sing Up Day 2011
soundLINCS is delighted to have been awarded an Igniting Ambition Award of £6,000 for the Junk Sculpture Experience. Part of the Cultural Olympiad initiative across Lincolnshire for 2011, soundLINCS will work in partnership with Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, appearing at around 10 events between July and September 2011. Inspired by traditional music and movement elements at sports events (think cheerleaders, 'We'll never walk alone' or the vuvuzela at the South African World Cup 2101) soundLINCS will deliver drop-in sessions before, during and after big sports events.
Marc Rhodes, Events Officer at the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership says:
"Dance and the Junk Sculpture will fit in perfectly with our aim to get children taking part and having a go at sport and physical activity. The World Cup in South Africa showed how well music, culture and sport can interact with each other and this is a great time to capitalise on that."
Follow the website to keep updated with our project as it develops. If you want to suggest a sports event that could host the Junk Sculpture experience next year, we would be very pleased to hear from you!

Pass It On - 1,000 voices at The Epic Centre
Schools across Lincolnshire have been working with hard with soundLINCS, as part of our Youth Music funded Sing Up Area Leader programme,to achieve Gold and Platinum Sing Up status over the past 26 months. We are delighted that our county now has 5 Platinum Awards (out of 43 in England and Wales) and 11 Gold Awards.
Almost every school in Lincolnshire has now signed up to the Sing Up website, which provides free singing resources for teachers. All teachers can register with Sing Up, so if you are not sure if your school in signed up, you can sign up at www.singup.org/registration
Gold and Platinum Sing Up status rewards teachers and pupils for outstanding work in singing. This means that they have been aiming high and developed valuable musical skills. We say WELL DONE!
To celebrate their achievements we have invited these schools to Sing Up at a major one-day event at the Epic Centre, Lincolnshire Showground on Tuesday 19 October. Called Pass It On, this day of workshops and performances will give voice to pupils from 11 schools and culminate in a performance of a song specially written for the day, entitled (not surprisingly) Pass It On! The challenge for our schools is that they have to learn the song in a day – they have never heard it before.
Why ‘Pass It On’?
Achieving Platinum and Gold status is all about legacy and sharing. Award-winning schools are invited to share their experiences, knowledge and skills with other schools, in order to help them make the most of singing opportunities. We hope that our Pass It On event inspires participating schools to do just that.
