soundLINCS are celebrating this week after winning a national award for Best Family-Friendly Workplace Initiative at the annual Fantastic For Families Awards ceremony at Leeds’ Carriageworks Theatre, recognising its contribution to arts and culture for families during the past year.
The Lincoln based East Midlands community music organisation were awarded the honour by a panel of expert judges from across the arts sector, recognising outstanding achievements and the exemplary family-friendly organisations and venues that participated.
Awards recognise the fantastic organisations who put on excellent events, welcomed families into their building, thought about the needs of older visitors, and considered the caring responsibilities of their staff.
For soundLINCS, the victory was in recognition of the decision to move to extended office hours from Monday to Thursday, fitting employees’ full-time working week into four days and providing a three day weekend in which they could meet their personal responsibilities, whilst also creating the systems to maintain the important delivery of the Company seven days a week.
The judging panel commented that “soundLINCS talked with staff to understand how different ways of working could help them to meet their caring needs. Their new flexible working arrangements have increased motivation across the organisation, and have been an invaluable support to those with caring responsibilities.”
Nikki-Kate Heyes MBE, soundLINCS CEO, said: “It was a real honour to be recognised by Fantastic for Families with this award. It is brilliant to share as a team this wonderful recognition of the journey that we have been on together, and can hopefully help spread awareness of the positive effects the change can have!”
“The incredible work being done by all the organisations and groups nominated in the awards deserved to be recognised, shouted about and listened to by all other companies, of all sectors. We should all be striving to be as inclusive, friendly and open as possible and it is a real inspiration to read about how many others share this ethos with us.”
Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England said: “Whatever the shape of your family the arts can provide it with happiness, with pleasure, with things to do together to create together and to remember together.”
Fantastic for Families is a national promotional campaign run by the Family Arts Campaign and funded by Arts Council England. It aims to connect families with arts and culture. Fantastic for Families began in 2013 as the national Family Arts Festival before becoming a year-round event listings service for families in 2017.
